Just harvested a carrot from the growbed a few days ago, but carrot has got a green ring inside...

Any ideas why they are not fully orange throughout?? Is it safe to eat??

I've gotten like that in the dirt garden and had no problems eating it. I contributed mine to the amount of root crown exposed to sunlight. I don't think it's like a potato where the green is bad.

was it all the way through the carrot or only at the top?

I have seen heaps of green rings at the tops of carrots and like BRB said I think it is due to sunlight. I generally don't eat this bit because I find it bitter.

The good thing about science is that you don't have to believe in it for it to be right.

I just pulled one out of the dirt garden the other day that had a little green tint in the middle ( was a young carrot) - tasted OK to me, by my seven year old daughter and wife said it tasted bitter. Nutrient deficiency during a small growth spell???
