The forum and BYAP websites have been down for about 3 days.. Typically they first went down when I was out in the middle of Australia near Uluru with no phone reception but I've managed to get someone onto them and get things up again. He's going to be spending some time checking over the VPS to try and ensure it doesn't happen again in a hurry..

Crap, I thought work proxy wasn't allowing access. I was lodging my resignation. Good that you told this to us :-)

I broke down and tried to join Backyard Aquaponics on Facebook... but the only one who accepted me was an imposter out of Canada that has 52 members and only one of them has ever posted anything aside from the imposter who posts what his dog had for lunch. I'm glad the forum is back up... I was starting to try and look on other forums to see if anyone had an address for where we could send money to pay the bill to get it up and running again, but I found the other aquaponics forums to be rather dead so I thought it might be the end of aquaponics if BYAP was gone for good.

Thank goodness. I too was melting away. I felt like a Borg drone losing my connection to the Collective. Thank You EarthBound

Blackhawk down

It was a bit like black hawk down, you should have seen me yesterday morning. standing in the camp kitchen at the caravan park here in Alice Springs, laptop balanced on a little ledge so that it could be plugged into the only power point. Using the mobile phone as a hotspot because I was too far from the wifi, but the phone was almost flat, just like the laptop so it was plugged into the laptop to recharge.

Chatting in one window to hosting support in some unknown country while in another window I had my server fixing man from Indonesia. Server fixer was having issues accessing the server, support was not being helpful and I was in the middle trying to negotiate and transcribe things backwards and forwards when I didn't have the slightest clue what was being said... The sun was starting to get really hot but I couldn't move into the shade away from the power.

Friends who had driven about 2000kms to see me were cooking up breakfast trying to have a conversation and a laugh while I was swearing and cursing, saying things like "How the hell would I know what port my ssh access is on? How could I have customized it when I don't even know what you're talking about?"

Juggling laptop and phone back to the table with 10% power, trying to eat, socialise, transcribe a foreign language between two people on opposite sides of the world and get back to the power point before I lost contact and had to start all over again, while trying not to appear rude and apologising to friends...

Still got there in the end and might look at changing hosting companies as it's been suggested I'm paying over double what I should for hosting.

The joys of keeping online things while living a travelling life. I've been living and travelling in a converted troopy for almost 6 months now, that's mine on the left, and that was probably taken about the time the forum went down, way out in the middle of central Australia.

Well done EB, as they say "if it was easy anybody could do it" but it's not easy and keep up the good work everyone on the forum appreciates the hard work that you do to keep BYAP up and running :thumbright:
