Hi everyone, :wave1:
Just starting into aquaponics. Been reading digesting and watching you tubes for a couple of weeks now
Decided to bite the bullet and give it a shot. Looking to do it on the cheap and keeping an eye out for some IBC's. Its gotta look good for the missus and I have few ideas on that front with some rustic features. Saw Icemans dad's setup and got very jealous.

Got my first score today with a free spa tub sitting on the side of the road. Still wondering whether to use it for a FT or a sump.
what are peoples thoughts?

Also any advantages/disadvantages of poly pipe with stainless clamps over pressure pipe? Let me know. Happy to take advice

Not sure what shape your new spa tub is, but round works best for FTs- better self-cleaning with the SLO.

I use 25mm rural poly pipe throughout my systems, plus a bit of larger sizes, but with the regular fittings there is no need for clamps. Or are you talking about the soft stuff (not good for pressure, particularly in hot sun) used in drip feed garden irrigation systems etc?

Its a round spa so Ii was hoping to get some circular flow happening and using a SLO. Yeah I was asking about the low density poly pipe, but the UPVC does look neater, but was thinking the poly might be cheaper.

Ordered my pump and test kit tonight and I have a mate checking on some IBC's for me later this week.

Now on the scrounge for some besser blocks.

Well its been a succesful week. I have scored some besser blocks and tonight picked up a trailer load of second hand hardwood bearers and joists for the supports. Some are a bit how your going, but will make good firewood. Have to do some denailing as they came from an old deck. Also scored some brushbox flooring that I will use for dressing up the sides of the beds. All for free :headbang: :headbang:

My pump and test kit arrived too. Drew a blank on the free IBC's from my mate as they dont give em away anymore, but have found two for $140 that contained food safe cleaning proucts Potassium carbonate. Picking them up tomorrow for a couple of days playing and tinkering

Actually the IBC's contained sodium hydroxide. I have filled them both and left to soak and then pressure cleaned them.
