Hey everyone. It seems that every time I have a question related to aquaponics, this forum comes up somewhere in the search results so I figured it was about time to join the community, say hi, and see if I could not only get my questions answered quicker, but also contribute to the community as well.

Quick blurbs about me:
I live near Biloxi, MS
I am a Master Gardener and enjoy volunteering my time to help others learn more about plants and gardening
I have been dabbling in hydroponics for years and recently decided to make the switch to aquaponics as a more earth-friendly solution as well as to look at the viability of creating 100% self-sustaining systems

My son and I recently built our first system. It was a father-son project - you can see it at Instructables where I posted a pretty reasonable "how-to" on how we built it. It is about a 200g tank with roughly 60g grow bed, flood and drain @ roughly every 15 minutes. We built it out of mostly recycled materials (stuff laying around my workshop, house, etc). The only thing we spent money on was the plumbing and rocks (we used lava rocks)

I look forward to meeting more of you and discussing ideas.

Yep, not a long drive at all, will be in Long Beach Friday, parents holding a birthday party for me while they are on the coast.

Hey Scotte - nice to meat you. I have some photos - will definitely have to put them up later. There is also a link in my intro (last paragraph, first sentence) that goes to Instructable - I uploaded pics and a "how I built my system from scraps" how-to.

It is cool that you are from Slidell - I would love to see your systems sometime. Your blog was one of the sites I used for reference when I was doing my initial research. Thanks for putting it out there!
