Hello everyone. My name is Orson and I'm working as a product development and marketing manager for one moving company. Yesterday we received an interesting request for removals. We have to relocate a school of Koi fish. Travel time is approximately 3 hours and we plan to use plastic bags filled with air. However I would greatly appreciate if you have any advices since my workers are not familiar at all with such kind of job and don't how to properly treat the fishes during their voyage.

Hi Orson, welcome to the forum  .

Not that we won't try to give you some good advice (no guarantees of course) but you might be better off asking in a KOI forum.

A lot of how you move these has to do with the size of the fish and the length of the trip. If these are larger fish it's more involved because it would be difficult to give them enough air in the bag for a long trip. I've moved trout using a DC to AC inverter (connected to the cigarette lighter socket of the car in this case but newer cars have an accessory connection that might work, I'm not sure) with an air pump plugged into it that supplied air to the fish. Someone else here might be able to tell you how much air you need for fish of the size you have.

When I transport live fish I use double bags filled with O2. Oxygen not air!
Place the double bagged fish in card board boxes. Light and movement will distress them. Be aware some Koi are very valuable. Check your insurance.
good luck

I will definitely check how big and valuable are the fishes before transporting them.

P.S. Wow it appears that these Koi can be very very expensive. Your advices can literally saved me thousands !
