Keep it going in the same thread. Much easier to follow the entire system from start to current if it's not spread out all over the place. Plus less likely to lose your followers ;).

We are getting snow again today too. I think Thursday or Friday they are saying spring will finally arrive. We are averaging 15 degrees below average for the past 24 days I saw on the news this morning. Definitely a good feeling when you think about your decisions to invest money into a system that will help grow food in unsure weather. The ten day forecast looks like a couple nights below freezing after spring arrives late this week but I'm going to test putting some tomatoes in my hoop house now that I have hoops and row cover for all of the beds. Might try one freezing night under row cover and if plants die then try the next freezing night with a small heater of some sort under the row cover.

Before and after of the seed starting table.
Hopefully our weather changes. First time I remember having a tornado watch, severe thunderstorm warning, and a winter weather advisory all at once...

are you using it as a flood and drain seed table? have you seen dasboot's table? works amazing! Might have to consider it myself.

Eventually it will probably be flood and drain. I tried to find dasboot's table but couldn't seem to find it :dontknow:

Your system is so clean looking. Great craftsmanship.

Thank you that means alot! When I started this project I knew I was an ok :dontknow: carpenter and knew nothing about growing plants. So now the hard part starts but at least my system looks decent :headbang:

I know I already posted about these filters in another thread but wow do these things work great! I can't imagine the shut down and clean up if I didn't have them.

So I need some help. Mechanically the system is running great. I made my first rookie mistake. I went off memory to start cycling my system and made a huge error. So instead of adding enough ammonia to get to .5ppm I added enough to get to 5ppm. My system is sitting at 4ppm for the last 2 days.

So what are my options? Am I looking at complete water change or partial water change? Do I just give it time? I have around 50 seedlings of various lettuce in the system.

Just let it go. It will be more prepared for fish if you let it clean itself up rather than doing water changes.

Antique work station

Did a partial water change today. Ammonia still high but live and learn. Thinking about adding some bacteria to jump start the cycle.

Good afternoon everyone. Just a quick little update. Installed some lids on the fish tanks and playing around with some dutch buckets.

The lids function but could use a little reinforcement and I probably should have done a little more homework on the design of the dutch buckets but thought I would just use the material I had already...

So complete over kill on the dutch buckets do to bad design.

I was just looking into Dutch Buckets myself and like the simplicity of this design with perlite

I hope this helps

Brian,

That's a good video. I wish I wouldn't have used the pvc as the feed lines and went with the irrigation drip lines. But since I am this far I figure I will give it a shot.

Thanks
Keegun
