Picked up one of these last week and today fired it up and did 4 rainbow trout and an antlantic salmon that I had in the freezer.
Every backyard aquaponer needs one of these :D

This sort of info is priceless... in about 12 months I will be able to try this with my silvers (hopefully)

In the mean time i think i might have to go fishing to test it out

Hi - got a few tips from the guy at Buxton, said they smoke their trout for 5-6 hours or something with a small fire using mountain ash(gum tree) for 600 trout. Its about the smoke not the heat. Used the method started on this thread - but with 3 heat beads - also left a little gap at the bottom. Had some thumb width gum tree sticks (i think its a spotted gum - lets call it bentleigh ash) and just positioned them on or near the heat beads. left them for 5 hours, webber never hot, only got very warm. Keep smoking until the spine of the trout is nice and firm. Absolutely beautiful. Webber or fancy new setup, try a slow smoke you wont be dissapointed.
