Here is a link to a paper by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. It is free to download and has more information than you probably want. The dutch bucket system will work fine for aquaponics, but I would start with goldfish to get your feet wet. If you come up with a design, you can always draw it out and put it on this forum to get more personalized advice. Good luck!

yes you can - it is 'common' to have buckets as an adjunct loop to an AP setup but that is not essential.
I have run small bucket systems 'in-line' within my AP instead of media beds and still do.

There are various discussions on dutch buckets around here that you will easily locate via the search.
To get just a list of topics (there are quite a few) use the advanced search
(advanced search instructions here ... viewtopic.php?f=4&t=27201)

The FAO document is a very good resource and very sound information on various aspects of AP but doesn't say much about dutch buckets.

You have a good thread topic here so just keep adding to it as you have questions.

First off maybe explain what your objectives are and what you are thinking of using/building,
and in particular system volumes etc.
