One common sense note with catfish likely to be overlooked, I think you'd need sinking feed though they may come to the surface if that's their only option.

That's likely to impact SLO design too since you don't want the feed immediately pulled from the tank.

It was a bit difficult to find the information and I'm not certain which state agency regulates it but here's what I found.
Likely as many agencies as they can squeeze into one reg...

Texas can be up to 3 agencies depending on lots of factors including which fish you tend.

MS appears to at least include Dept. of Ag (MDAC) and Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP).

Catfish do just fine with floating food. If using sinking food or combo floating/sinking food you will want to stop pumping while feeding to prevent food loss through the slo.

Channel Catfish do well with either type of feed but I've found that they are less likely to come to the surface when the water temp is lower so for much of the year I feed a sinking chow. They are pretty timid when it's cooler out and will hide much of the time. Right now with the warmer weather they are hitting the surface for their food. I haven't had to shut down the pump to feed but it's not a bad idea if your system allows you to do this without causing problems and if you're not the forgetful type. I think the catfish would be more likely to come out in cooler temps with the pump off. With the pump on, I've noticed that the catfish may not eat their food immediately and you may not see them eat but they do.

You can make the floating chow sink by soaking it in a little water for five or ten minutes and then squeezing the air out before tossing it in. Kind of a pain but it that's the only feed you have it works :dontknow: .
