Moringa oleifera
Plant Spring-Summer.
5m deciduous tree producing long pods traditionally
used in asian cooking for soups, curries and pickling. The
roots are used as a horseradish substitute while the
leaves, twigs and flowers are consumed raw in salads.
Immature pods can be fried or roasted and as young
seedlings consumed as a cooked green vegetable. Also
known as the Horseradish tree.

Availiable from john's link, as either seeds or small plants - we cant plant any until spring though :(

Quick note ,, although many people do eat the root as a horse-radish alternative , some studies suggest it contains ( in the roots) a compound that may not be ideal for large consumption . I'll hunt the link to that.
They grow to 5 metres , but best to cut them about 80 cm and make them branch ,, and then branch and ....etc.
I'll find the links tonight for growing and for the leaf use as a foliar spray.
I'm stating to sound like a "gunna" , but no time right now , 2 kids , working 6 nights a week and doing major house renovations ( I need a holiday!!!! ).

Yes, I've read that before. It's the compound that has the best healing effect as an antibiotic. It's a reasonably powerful nerve paralysing agent. According to wikipedia, it's an alkaloid called spirochin. No further information available...

It's a winner.

Really impressive Chappo, thanks for that

Steve S , thanks for that link,..... here's a few more.

http://www.mobot.org/gradstudents/olson/oleifera.html

The above link has attached links that give heaps of excellent info. The info from leicester University looks excellent.
It includes trilas and full on testing of Moringa seeds as a water clarifier,,

Here's one about using it as a foliar spray for other vegies etc.http://moringamission.blogspot.com/2005 ... ct-12.html
Remeber as you add it as fish food and also add it as a foliar spray , you are adding many of the missing elements for most APer's , Iron and Pottasium.

Don't forget Cows chickens, ducks sheep, goats etc also love this stuff.

Damnit, hard day at work, and almost midnight... Surely I'm allowed 1 typo... 'i' is very close to 'e' after all :) hurts especially cos I'm so pedantic about spelling usually. :(

I thought the rhyme was 'I before E except after C'

KP's version is 'I before E except after P'

:)
