oh, I asked as I have about 10 or so pots of it in my shade house / nursery area and wondered about its ability to grow in an aquaponic system... :bounce:

I'm not sure why anybody would want to grow aloe vera in an aqua setup. They are not that fast growing. grow easilly in ground and I don't think they fetch that great a price per kg. Am I missing something - or is the interest purelly in whether they will grow in this way?

Every year I run the plant stall at the annual sprin fair - and aloe vera sells well - thought it would give it another spin if it read "organically grown"... plus it would just be interesting to see if it would grow... just for the hell of it really :clown:

Be curious to see... generally likes it dry... doesn't like to be overwatered and definitely doesn't like to get it's feet (roots) wet... needs good drainage

May depend on the lenght of your cycle as to how it grows.

Perhaps just on a slow drip in a satelite pot (or something similar)

I grow it in a normal pot (which I water with fish water very occasionally using a watering can). It's very easy to grow. No idea what we'll do with it :)

actaually mines goin well...like is wet .....they only rot if you water the frons like most peolple that kill em do...

mine has gone ape in the hothouse along with the rest of my ap vegies n herbs....has actually tripled in size since December ....also alot more off shoots on it.

Alot of folk would buy a mangey lookin one at a market for $5....I know coz I was one of em lol. Could be a good lil money earner for very little input once they get passed the root shot stage which would only last a few days.

njh........ i use mine for sunburn and scolds and minor cuts....works better than most creams etc available at the chemist

Ok, never thought of it that way BK....

I've always just starved mine for water and they've grown great...
by default drawing what they need up through their roots as they would in a grow bed I guess...

Thinking about all the people I've seen kill them, they probably have drenched them from the top whether in soil or a pot.

Would still say they wouldn't work in DWC though

like you say BK...

sunburn, scolds, bluebottle stings or any stings and burns... absolute magic and quick

cuts, sores weeping wounds.... even attributed to lessen scar tissue

called the "healing plant" in many circles
