I use chicken wings Charlie, cheap, and they stay in the net. After three pulls of the nets with these guys the wings were looking very sad though  :)

Sounds like many of the lakes and swamps are coming to life, so this thread may ( I hope ) get boring

Its interesting for me that the lakes are now the time to trap (in march), as the best time Ive found for the local Dam's is around September leading into the end of the year. What is the location as Id like to check it out on google maps?

Also, the claws on some of those big boys would almost indicate that they are koonacs due to the bulk width but the inner or clamping edge isnt shaped so. It still gets me to this day that habitat and location has breed so many threads of this species it is almost unmeasurable.

We have many different kinds of or sorts of yabbies around here. The swamps and dams give brown yabbies, and lakes like the ones above a mixture of brown and blue, the deep lakes give blue yabbies and the river black ones. These are all just water conditions I guess tho
The black river yabbies have the best taste but are smaller
In Google maps look for Horsham Victoria. This lake is just east of the town, but most are west and south/west of the town in a 100km radius

+ 1 on the dog bikkies for bait. A drop of aniseed oil can help too. Growing up with 10 dams full of yabbies I never used to worry about the claws unless they were nice and big...

The yabbies being caught this year are huge in all the swamps and lakes , but they have been slow. Now it seems, things are starting to go off
I am liking that the yabbies I got today are from very big to small, shows that the breeding is happening eh
