We were supposed to be on a shared server, but only with one other person so we have 50% of the CPU..

Hate to say it EB, but you are getting scalped! Shared hosting costs, even in Aus, are way cheaper than what you are paying currently.

Generally US hosting is cheaper but there are a number of reliable Aussie hosts that offer business grade hosting (SLA's, guaranteed uptime etc.) at a cheaper rate than you are currently paying.

If you could confirm your plan details (and requirements), I would be more than happy to suggest alternative plans/hosts.

I would support the suggestion made by rsevs3 or even the paid subs model. The BYAP forum has been a fantastic resource for my AP project (and AP addiction) so it would be an opportunity to give back. :headbang:

earthbound,

pm'ed you a sitehosting provider doing it for US$4/mth, and they'll transfer the phpbb site for you for free. It'll cater for your bandwidth and space usage apparently.

Cheers.

that outta save you $2,000/year. :)

Definitely check out USA-based hosts, try for a VPS with a minimum of 512-1GB of RAM (this is were most VPS hosts gouge you is in the RAM).

Or a cheap dedicated server for about the same price as you are paying now, just be careful about who you choose as a host at that price so it's still reliable.

I am against the nbn.
Do you know that a vast majority of the first rollout areas were in marginal electorates?
Convenient huh???
Also, partly to get this rollout through, there have been alot of increases to taxes in Australia behind the scenes that most people wouldnt know about.
So my taxes have gone up so some idiots who cant make up their mind get faster internet.

I'm not a flat earth naysayer, I am a realist and a taxpayer, and between me and my wife, we will be paying around an extra $8k in tax this year because of this governments initiatives.

Sorry, rant over.

Moving is not something I'm going to do lightly, it is a MAJOR headache... And I've had it in the past where you move from one to another, only to find out it's not quite what you expect so you have to move again fairly quickly.

As with most things, it still is a case of "you get what you pay for".

You earn too much Werdna... :-P

In parts of the US the state governments pushed fiber optic cables saying they had to keep up to attract businesses. So we paid for the networks with our taxes and then they wound up pretty much giving the networks away - Now we get to pay to use the networks that we gave them. Gotta love the way the system works some times.

You may as well get some use out of the fiber optic cables we payed for EB 8)
