The following are some photos from yesterdays workshop. They are running once a month and provide an overview of the basics of aquaponics which includes system styles, media types, plants, fish etc. It provides opportunities for many of those frequently asked questions about bacteria, greenhouses and water testing and participants get to take home an information pack including 5 issues of the e-magazine. As of Friday the magazine is also available in printed format from the shop.

Yesterday was cold, wet and windy but about 15 people braved the weather for our August workshop. They say things go in threes and yesterday was no exception, (1)we had 3 lots of hail.
(2) we lost our internet connection , phone line and telephone sevice, it still hasn't been repaired.
(3) I lost my voice and it hasn't come back.
The wether was fine during the workshop, so thankyou to the rain gods for that one.
Thanks to Carl and Mitch who did a sterling job providing the course content for the afternoon, I was relegated to photographer and supervisor. :(

Hey Food and Fish, the green rectangle tank tank that Carl is getting Silver Perch from is about 2000 litres. It is also insulated. The patio style units (that come in a range of 42 different colours) hold about 300 litres of water in the bottom and 3 bags of clay in the top. The growth has been amazing in that aqua one (hehe) but of course it is powered by trout.
Hi King Eric, sir, there has been frequent requested for the steel systems. They do have really good appeal. We just couldn't ignore it and especially since it was Joels signature system. (My thoughts anyway)

The weather cleared and the afternoon was mostly fine for the September workshop held at BYAP. A shower came through and we sheltered in Carls' greenhouse, a timley discussion about the benefits of greenhouse structures which of course included protection from the elements. Around 15 people attended and we covered many aspects including history, media, fish species, transport, planting, styles, designs, water quality and testing. All participants were provided afternoon tea and a take home pack including issues of the magazine for further reference.

There are many types of styles and designs of aquaponic systems and we'll show you how the "flood and drain" system operates.

You can also learn how to get the most out of growing seasonal plants.
