We also show you how you can grow plants just floating on the water.

Often people will ask about whether they require a greenhouse to house an aquaponic system so we cover the pros and cons.

There is plenty of opportunity to ask questions during the workshop. Light refreshments are provided.
The 2 hour workshop covers the basics about aquaponics. A brief introduction about the history of aquaponics right through to styles and designs.
What aquaponics is really all about from the fish, plants, media and management of a system. Anyone who has a system will know that it can be managed in as little as five minutes a day, but be warned as it can easily turn to an addiction. you may be up late surfing the net, posting or following the forum, designing a system in your head and taking photos to share with the world.
The next dates have been scheduled for a "twilight workshop" due to Perths warm weather conditions at this time of the year. Numbers are limited to 20 and payment of $55 is required to secure a booking. Course notes are supplied as well as 6 copies of the magazine on disc.

Last night marked a turning point, we are now into the second year of running workshops at the BYAP display centre. The first 12 months saw us running at least one workshop a month, some months we even ran two when there was enough demand.

When Faye first said she wanted to run the workshops I expected that they may be popular to begin with, but surely interest would peter out over time. How wrong I was, yesterdays workshop had 18 people, only 2 off our maximum number for workshops..... And it's the middle of footy season.

I'm sure there will be a few pics added here in the next day or so.....

You guys ever think about doing some power point webinars? It would not be as hands on-but it is easy for people to attend.

Mitch demonstrates planting out a seedling into a media filled bed and discusses how he uses companion planting to repel pests and introduce the beneficial insects. We also cover the use of food grade or organic treatments that are fish friendly.

There is always plenty of opportunity to ask questions. You will learn how to supplement a diet by starting your own worm farm and growing duckweed.

Healthy plants are no accident and if you aim to work with nature and grow winter crops at the appropriate time of the year you are certainly more than half way there. Plants grown in their optimum growing environment are more resistant to pests and disease. We can teach you how to turn a pest to your advantage by treating the fish to a nice healthy caterpillar, a free protein source, they will thank you for it.

Carl gives lessons on safe fish transportation, what types of fish are suitable and why.
I can tell you how they taste best and what sort of names they should have so there is no separation anxiety. Sushi, smoke, pepper, fish cakes- and feel free to join in if you have any more suggestions.
