Yeah I guess it can depend on the plants and their requirements as well, cabbages obviously require a decent amount of calcium so they show up deficiencies pretty quickly. None of the other plants are showing any deficiencies in the systems though.

Next time there's some space in all three systems, can you please plant something all at the same time like you did at the start, so we can follow the growth of something now that all the systems are mature.

Just , say, 3 lettuce in each or something, but in a similar space etc.

I should probably put up the pictures of what came out last week so that Anna can make her forum debut and comment on what she discovered when she removed the plants :)

 There was actually another cabbage that was removed when Joel showed the CHOGM delegates the healthy clean roots.

The plants harvested were rainbow chard, beetroot and cabbages. Celery was also removed as they had started going to seed, so not much left to photograph. I Anna doesn't comment soon, I will tell of her obsevations, are you there Anna?

Were there any worms in the systems?

If so was there a bias toward them preferring any system over the others?

If not I wonder if you could put some in so that some time down the track we might know something about where worms like to live.

And stinkyness? Any stinkyness in any of the systems?

And what kind of solids quantities did you find in each system?

Faye I don't think you can expect that all our staff will be on after hours.... :)

I'll post up my version of what she said after harvesting and through my own recent observations..

Continuous flow/flood - LOADS of slugs.. We noticed this recently with slugs covering plants of a night time. Set up some beer traps the other night and got lots and lots in the traps. Siphon system had a few slugs, flood and drain timer system had only one or two slugs.

Heaps of worms in timer system, worms in others but not quite as many jusging from casual observaiton..

Solids build up? not noticeable from what I remember in any system.. No nasty smells... Maybe you can add more Anna...?

My new system has been going 5 months using CF and not much in the way of slugs so far. Plenty in the dirt garden, just haven't found their way to the growbeds in significant numbers.
