|Post subject:||Aquaponics Research|
I have only recently started my first aquaponics system in my backyard. Other than an attack of aphids and working through what grows with little sun (I have a very shady backyard) it’s going well and I have harvested my first snow peas. I have found forums like this a wealth of information. In the longer term I would like to both improve what I have started and do more.
I am taking advantage of being at Macquarie University to do a research project on aquaponics and I am looking for people who are running an aquaponics system now or in the past to take part. The project is twofold. The first part is a survey of fish and plants that are grown. The idea is to look at what grows well in different types of systems and different locations/climates. The second part is a diary. The diary can be simply a diary of the plants and fish, when you added them, when you harvested them, or can include weights, and even costs depending on what you are interested in. You can contribute as much or as little as you like.
This is a project that will be run by those who take part – they will be able to analyse the data collected themselves, and make their own conclusions – who knows we may come with exciting new discoveries! They can determine the ongoing direction of the research. Being a university project, it is covered by their ethics requirements, including privacy requirements.
So, do you want to be part of this? You can do this via http://www.ourresearch.net . You will be able to see results from the survey on this site, and I will publish highlights here in the future. Feel free to contact me about this.
