Hi! So I'm helping a group build an aquaponics setup in the Philippines. The pond's about 53 cubic meters, they want to do a flood & drain system, and I figure at least 12,000 liters of grow beds, right next to the pond and pretty low to the ground so we don't need a lot of head. What kind of pump do you think we need? We're thinking of spending like $200 (10,000 PHP) on the pump, but I think we should divide that in two to have a back-up pump. That would put us in the price range for a 1-2hp pump, depending on the quality, though honestly I'm afraid that might be too small to cycle a 53 cubic meter pond in an hour.
The brands I've seen here are shoufou, saer, victor, gould, and supra. The Chinese brands seem the cheapest, while the Italian brand seems the highest quality. I'd kind of like to stick to what's locally available so that it's easier for them to replace it. I took some pictures of what the local suppliers have. Hopefully some of these can meet our needs?

Orange showfou pump is most likely oil filled and are typically avoided in AP

The bottom jet pump is intended for much higher head pressures than you'll need, unless youse it with a jet to increase your potential low head flows (google jet bore pumps)

I don't know which makers you have access to but if you have access to Caprari pumps (made in Ialy) they're good. I've had good success with Chinese centrifugal pumps but they were bigger than you'll be using

$200 seems like an ambitious budget for a pump this size

You know, I took over from someone else, and they were using what looks like one of those Showfou deep well pumps for the last aquaponics garden. The pipes burst free pretty often, which I assumed was because they didn't use any PVC cement, but maybe they have way too much pressure for the head (just 1 meter), haha.

I'll try seeing what other pumps are available.

You can save a lot of money on electricity if you get a better pump. It's also best if you can find one that handles solids. I did find a distributor that sells some more efficient pumps - I don't know anything about this brand but some of the models use a fraction of the power either of your two choices use and pump just as much water -
