Hi everyone, need a bit of help here.

I have a bucket load of activated carbon pellets I wish to reuse for umm, filtering a certain liquid (C2H5OH) which may or may not be for human
consumption (depending on who's reading this...).

I am currently boiling a litre at a time on the stove for 2 hours, then I intend to bake it at 220 degrees to dry it. Would that sound like enough?
It has been used previously in aquarium filters, not by me though. But it is practically brand new.

I have access to a kiln which is firing tonight actually, I have read that at 800-1000 degrees any organic substances contained within the carbon will burn off.
The only problem is the kiln is being fired at 1200 deg, so I don't know if I will have anything left after it is finished. lol.

Any ideas would be fantastic......

Is it worth it? The carbon I use for making drinks is cheap to buy. And trust me that any residue can alter the taste. I re-used oak chips and had a bad taste go through 5lts. But leaving it in the shed for a year and a half did make it drinkable. :drunken:

True... I will stick it the kiln anyway, just to see if it works... only because it won't cost me anything...

If I ran drinking water through it and detect no odour or taste, would it be safe to say that any other liquid would be unaffected?

I just don't want to go out and buy it when I literally have 10 litres of it here...

alcohol is a lot different than water. Why not make a bio filter out of it. Carbon has a great surface area.

Looking at Activated Carbon to take out nasties, chloramine etc from FT water. Is it worth making something up. Idea is to have the water either go through the filter to top up the system or have it as part of the system and run system water through it.
