Dosing Rates for plant supplements

I just did a search to see if I could find mention of how much maxicrop to use in a system but did not find that info quickly.

Now I'm going to suggest that we make this a sticky thread and people can post the dosing rates of things that they have found safe for their fish and successful for helping their plants.
Please do mention the specific product since I know there are a few different formulations of maxicrop and seasol.

Right now I'm interested in how much of the original Maxicrop .1 - 0 - 1 to use.
Other products I expect people have used and might share their usage rates include
Maxicrop with Iron
Seasol
chleated Iron

Other products that have been used successfully without hurting fish are of interest also.

How much supplement per a given volume of water is the info needed.

Seasol Concentrate - 1/4 to 1/2 a cup per 1000l of fish water.

Dose whenever deficiencies start to show.

shouldn't that be concentration per volume of water led to the plants?
surely you are not dosing the additives in the fish tank (unless the additives are meant for fish health)?
there is a fair chance that the growbed media will filter most out
so very little will go back to the fish

Takes around 24 hours for the nutrients to be absorbed by the plants - added directly to the fish water.

you are avoiding my question which is whether it is advisable to add the additives to the fish water (where they could be harmful to the fish) rather than to the plant water, from where, even if they leach through to the fish water, it will be in a smaller concentration.

Hey?? I wasnt avoiding anything.

Have you added seasol or any other nutrient supplements to your system?? Pouring it in the growbed is no different to pouring it in the fish tank - one pass through a growbed does not dilute the seasol at all. If I have only one growbed that is showing deficiency I add seasol to that bed - and 2 seconds later it is in the fish tank - and then to every other growbed.

The fish water and plant water is one and the same...?

I have turned the fish tank water black with seasol before (long story) and have seen no problems with the fish.

Adding to a flood and drain growbed...hence the "plant" water ... will ultimaetly return some back to the fish tank anyway Frank....

The products used have been (sometimes by trial and error) selected such that they're not harmful to fish...

As long as you're prudent about the amounts used, then it's been found that adding directly to the fish tank is fine....

Others, at times apply as foliar sprays... others directly to the growbed surface(s)...

Depends somewhat on the product and intention...

Ok, we got Seasol at 1/4-1/2 cup per 1000 l of water.

Anyone tried Maxicrop? At what rates?
How bout Chleated Iron?

I have in the past used the liquid Iron sulfate at a rate of about one pint per 1000 gallons of water. Seemed to help some but probably not as much as chleated Iron would have. Fish seem fine.

I have also used potassium chloride (Murate of Potash) at a rate of about 4 tsp per 1000 gallons of water sprinkled where the water enters the grow beds. Was hard to tell if it was enough or not but the tomatoes kept producing. Now that I've found the Maxicrop locally, I intend to use that instead except for when I need to provide extra salt and chloride for the fish.

I have only just used it so I don't know the results yet but for the original Maxicrop ( .1 - 0 - 1 ) I have dosed with about a quart per 1000 gallons of water. All the water has tinted a nice dark brown.

I've ordered some greensand and hope to try that but it hasn't arrived.

maybe try a foliar spray with the iron sulpate.

So that's (roughly) 250ml/1000ltr.... sounds about right TCL....

Steve, I have done the foliar spray thing with the Iron Sulfate before and it did work well. Only problem I run into with spraying around here most of the year is the heat. You don't want to spray anything other than plain water on plants when it is this hot or you burn the plants. So most of the year I'm stuck spraying at dusk which makes it hard to see what I'm doing and I get eaten by mosquitos while I'm at it.
