Today was the inaugural workshop held at the Display Centre in Jandakot. 13 people attended a 3 hour course to cover the basics of aquaponics and to view a range of systems and fish species suitable for Perths climate. We covered various aspects of system maintenance, what to grow and what not to grow. Carl shared his wealth of knowledge about fish and settling them into a new environment, Mitch recorded the days event on camera and prepared afternoon tea and Joel manned the video camera and answered general questions regarding aquaponics. The natural frog pond is always a winner as people enjoy viewing a still pond and begin to understand what an ecosystem means.

That bed has a variety of palms and ferns that are doing really well. They do not need a lot of nutrient and the tree fern is going crazy. The system has about 30-40 black bream that are about 12 months old. The nasturtiums are trailing all over the beds and it looks really ornamental. That system gets quite a bit of shade from the heavy shadecloth.

The shade explains the dark green leaves. I have a few plants that I limit the light to so they get nice dark green leaves. In full sun they end up with light green, not as pretty. :flower:
