Id imagine the transition would be reasonably easy... get rid of all the chemicals and use fish to grow your plants!

Hello all,
just for the record, I've set my Aquaponic system up in a window sill in Copenhagen, Denmark. If there are any other Aquaponauts nearby I would love to see your system!

Hi, live in California and have 2 small test systems going. Adding a third 100 gallon system now. That will max me out here but this is all research for my 5 acre farm in Nicaragua. Having a tough time getting the right fish. Blue tilapia are illegal and I want to keep everything solar so a water heater isn't too economical. Maybe trout or Koi.

Well, I'm from the Interior of British Columbia, Kamloops is close enough. I have a small indoor/outdoor system that's been running for just over a year. Many feeds of swiss chard, lettuce, radishes etc. and much given away to our elders and those less fortunate. Got my little community interested in the process and searching for ways to expand such a system to a community sized scale. Green houses are too expensive to run in winter up here, so we looking at a purpose built structure to accommodate heating and growing needs.

I think anyone of us would disagree that a system this size would feed a single person a meal a day... maybe three a week... but not every day. Not enough space for ... large fruit or veg... not enough FT. But, a cute little system, eh?

And... a class/ program in the Virgin Islands... I mean, if one is going to go to school... what a fabulous place to do one's coursework... if you want to stay in the 'western hemisphere'...

Firstly... the UVI course... is designed for "commercial" growing...

As to the "Urban Farmers"... well their "Farm in a Box" greenhouse on top of a shipping container.. was launched a while back... claiming at that time to have all sorts of environmental and carbon footprint/energy saving benefits....

Now they offer other products.. like the "kitchen" unit pictured.... an artist impression of a futuristic rooftop dome/globe...

And their rooftop farm.... that according to the article.. produces a "yield more than five tons of fresh vegetables and nearly a ton of fish per year, feeding a local community of 100 people year-round." ... from 250sq mtr (2,700sq ft)

Yet their website reckons they can produce.... 3-4 ton of fish and 20 ton of veges... and feed 400 people... (that's 20 fish per person each year.. and 50kg of veges)...

From their 1000sq mtr (10,000sq ft).. rooftop farm... (which was at least partially funded by a 250,000 euro grant donation)...

And of course... they offer "training".... even though they've only just begun "selling fresh produce to five local restaurants" in January 2013....

All designed and run... by people with zero aquaculture knowledge... and basically zero aquaponic knowledge...

ho... humm... heard it all before....
