1ppt.... to mitigate against nitrites... and as a tonic to ease stress from transport/handling...

3ppt... for most parasites, including "ich"... and fin rot... but 6ppt for severe cases... it's about "shock and awe"...

6ppt... for fungal/bacterial infections....

10-12ppt.... short term salt dip/bath..... for severely affected fish...

Clear as mud....

Yes, but do check the details on the type of fish you have. There are some fresh water fish in some parts of the world that don't do well with salt levels above say 5 ppt (Channel Catfish and Bluegill are the ones in my mind) just want to throw that out since some people might not think to check otherwise.

Vslid comment TCL... and I'd be a little dubious about our eel-tailed catfish as well beyond 3ppt...

Yea, here Tilapia have been found living in salt water (Tampa Bay apparently has a naturalized population.)

My Channel Catfish will react to 3 ppt of salt though it is ok for them but I won't salt any higher than that with them. I did once and they really didn't like it.

Anyway, sorry for the Hijack. Now back to netab's regularly scheduled thread.

Besides, any chance of me actually learning something can only be a good thing :D
