Its surprising these days its almost like local governments believe they own everyones property well I for one say pay my mortgage then they can tell me what I can or cannot do on my land..

And it is continually getting worse. The ratio of "good" legislation that increases liberty vs bad legislation that takes it away is not very high...

But that's what government is all about, always has been, always will be. Always getting bigger, stealing more from the people (tax, inflation) and removing more and more individual rights, which makes it easier to keep people inline when they EVENTUALLY get jack of it and rebel.

Its all about private property rights. Whether the property is your land or your body.
And most politicians don't understand or care for the importance of private property.

The US has Ron Paul, libertarian and follows the Austrian Theory (Austrian Economics)

In Australia we have the Liberal Democratic Party, also supposedly libertarians (haven't looked into them yet) We also have Bob Katter, who understands the importance of private property rights but doesn't really have the economics stuff sorted out.

I'm surprised you're having that much trouble. I would have thought code enforcement would be much lighter as far out of town as you are. I'm in Orlando under an HOA so I already know I can't do squat. My AP is limited to my screened patio.

I've been trying to talk my husband into moving to a more rural area (1-5acres Osceola or up your way) but he's not really interested. I think he's afraid of what my projects will become then. I suppose it's good to know we're going to have to look carefully for restrictions if we do find something.

Orange County is kinda strict about "structures"
As far as the garden goes they think growing food is fine. Just make sure it doesn't look like outdoor storage I guess.

TC Keep up the good fight!!!

My daughter suggests red and purple for the water storage and transportation equipment- maybe some striped and some spotty. She is only 9 but alarmingly red and purple do look good together!

I believe that every person with the capability to do so, should grow a percentage of the food that their household require. I bet the biddy down the road also goes shopping and buys enough food for an army then committs it to land fill when it goes off. I do not envy your position. And yours is not "just" garden art, it all has a very sound purpose. You are doing as much as you can to save our planet. We are not able to keep chooks on a permanent basis as our block is too small, but occasionally I borrow a couple off a friend for a few days to clean up the bugs. We love having our little guests.
I wonder how many people in your area have an old car body on the front lawn or dont bother to mow or keep the front area tidy? That should be more important to law enforcement!
Have you tried to get onto your local council? If you cant beat them Join them then you may be able to quietly change some of the bylaws - hehehe

To yourself and any others in your position - Our best wishes in the good fight!!!

PS Hope you get that 10 acres. I will be on the lookout for your next and bigger system :flower:

Ah, I didn't think about that being Orange county that far out. I'm on the opposite corner from you, quite the span to it. That's why I'm thinking Osceola. They still take school days off for the rodeo, surely a chicken or two wouldn't bother them. :D

I know someone down in Osceola and I think he was able to build a greenhouse without a permit as long as he kept it under a certain size. In Orange county, you are not even technically "allowed" to put up one of those canopies like over a outdoor dining table or as a car port without getting a permit, and then you have to show drawings of the exits and fire extinguishers and parking etc and you are only allow to have it for like a week or two twice a year (see they think people should only put up a tent for a wedding or party or something.)

Sigh.
Yea, I am doing things to save the environment for the whole neighborhood. And I've found out that most of the neighborhood things it's really cool. but there are a few around that go about looking for things that seem "odd" to them to complain to code enforcement about. Luckily the officer who came by this last time is a real sweetheart and I'm hoping nothing more is gonna come of it.

Dont bother with sweetening up the nosy neighbour TC. Give that basket of fresh produce to the code enforcement officers.!!! I really admire your perserverance and positivity. :thumbright:
I hope your neighbours are still backing you up :D

I disagree, it's people like that who need the "sweetening up"
The christians call it grace and it makes the world a little nicer :)

Sorry Superveg! I call myself christian. Our children are not baptised as they have their own desisions to make. However, I certainly would not be 'dobbing in a neighbour' especially in TC's case. If the neighbours wish to be treated in a Christian way then behave accordingly. "When in Rome..." (is that applicable?)

So I thought this was all done since code enforcement never came back to tell me what had to go.

But now I get a notice saying I have to remove all outdoor storage of trash, junk and debris.
and
remove all outdoor storage and display of equipment, products and merchandise from the public right-of-way, driving isle, driveway or any required parking spaces.

Tell me, since when does a residential lot have required parking spaces? And since when did my personal garden become an illegal display?

Thats right TC, send them a clear message. You don't have to play their games. Onwards and upward.

Well, I would love to come visit all you down in OZ.

I think I might be getting a real farm (about 17 miles from where we live now, next county over)!!!!! Pray for me that the closing will happen tomorrow or the next day. When it does I'll make the big announcement to everyone about the new place and share some pictures and plans.
