I have a few sheets of Blue board foam[DOW] 25mm thick..

I'm using the foam I have on hand.. The Piece Will be about 1m[The width of the trough] and the width of the sheet about 500mm wide.. So each sheet should be easy to manage..
- All I need now is some form of media for the net pots I have..

I Picked up the rest of the hydroton tonight and have put in 2 of the bag's.. I'll put the rest in tomorrow after the RedHill Show http://redhillshow.org/ ..

The Ferrets are going to the show.. I'll Try to get some Picture of the show and the Ferret's..

The seeds dropped in the growbed have started to germinate..
I'm going for the spread and lets see what happens..

Ive never been involved with a DWC bed snow and I have started making one up myself solely for lettuce varieties and free up some room in my GB's. I assumed that we use hydroton for the net pots for media? Or do we need something smaller? Not sure, still learning... :dontknow:

I think I want to try out some vermiculite.. I have perlite but I think that will be a problem as it floats to well..

I'll try to get the airline also done as well.. I have all of the stuff but the Airstone's... I keep on see the blue ones I want the better quality Air stones..

Last Growbed filled with hydroton..

Final count is some thing Like 2cubic metre of Scoria and about 13bags of hydroton spread between.. 1700lts of Large Growbed and also about 400lt of IBC GB..

Got to get some more Seeds for Winter crop's..

In my new dwc I have been using hydroton in the net pots... Works well, seeds germinate and good roots through. It wicks well so don't put your seeds too low

The Seeds We dropped in the Growbeds have started to sprout..

Celery, chard and a winter Baby salad mix..

Going to do the random seed spread on the other grow-bed..
But I'm after as much advice for what will grow the best in a Constant Flood GB..

Most plants do Snow, especially the ones you have planted.

Tommies, bak choi, pak choi, cucumber, squash, onions, zuccini etc etc

Ok.. a small update..

the old fence you can see in my photo's is going, going, nearly all gone..
- I'm replacing all of the fence to include a few added bonus's..
I'm lifting the fence to be 7ft tall..
A tall fence to help keep the sun off the tank..
I'm also including a roof over the FT..

- The FT has been partially clad with Bubble foil insulation, to help keep the FT cooler..[Partially north and west/south side]

As part of the fence construction I have a questions Questions..
I want to have a frame over the grow-bed area..
- what Grade/Colour of Shade cloth should I use over the Area..
- Can it be Covered full time.. ie all season's..

If you think shade cloth will be a problem I'll add Bird Netting at a minimum..

I'll post some photo's tomorrow..

A Real Brief update..

I can see to the bottom of the tank..
- There is a slight cloudiness to the water.. I need to see if I can clear it up..

I did see swimming in the tank, the 2 Goldfish that I dropped into it at the very start..

there is not a sign of any trout in the tank..

the Fence is coming on..

Ok some Color in the garden..

Ok what greet us when I get home.. This is a calm moment..

Ok here is what I have gotten up to so far..

The roof frame that I have done so far..

The drain that flow from the GB#1 to the DWC..

Some of the Seeding that are coming up.. Chinese Leeks..

Some of the Salad Greens that are coming up.. Beet root and some lettuce..

Clay looks very wet Snow... how far is the water level under the top of the clay??

I checked the grow-beds..

I found that the stand Pipe was a bit higher than it should of Been and the water flow is extreme..

I might have to up that size of the stand pipe..
- I can go from 40mm to 50mm

I had a god think and put a rough figure on the flow's I'm Getting..

The Water levels in the Tank/settlement and sump All stay pretty much the same [except when the small siphon kick's in about 50-100lt's]
The pump I have got running is a 8000lt/h pushing to about 1.6m head So I figure I'm Flowing about 4-5k per hour.. So I feel I have a heap of water flowing thru all 3 grow-beds and then back to the sump..
[GB#1 flows thru the DWC then off to the Sump]

Ok.. an Update..

After I lost all 25 of the original trout order du to not having a stable water temp I have restocked the tank..

The 2 goldfish in the system have been powering along fine..
The growth of the plants have been going good.. just needed a bit more of a kick..
So on that thread I got 20 more trout to up the level of ammonia in the system.. The Trout Love the big tank..

I also have 50 more Murray Cod in the system aswell..[4-6cm]

All I have to do now is make a decision on what I'm going to deck the system with..

So all in total I have 20 [15-20cm trout] and 50 [4-6cm Cod]
They will get small amounts of food till the system start to show some ammonia , then controlled amounts till the system registers no more nitrite's..

Update..

I'm at the stage where I can cloth the roof frame over the tank..
I'm going to make sure that I double up on the shade cloth.. It may sound strange but I found this method a good way to cut down on how much rain gets thru..

Next on the agenda is to think about the xtra 2 tank's I want for my gold fish.. They need room to grow.. they are at the stage of out growing their current pond and this will give me an extra area for QT if I need it in the future..

Growth is still slow..

The Mixed leaf salads are doing great..[Beetroot and a few other types']
Broad leaf water crest is going overboard and has out grown the stuff that put in 2 weeks earlier..
The Celery has been slow to grow.. but has finally shown it heads as it was..

the sugar pea's are growing well.. and the chinese leaks I'm not to sure about..
