Im starting a aquaponics system in my backyard and I was wondering how many fish can I put in a 100 gallon stock tank? I would like to put tilapia in it but Im not sure how many I should put in it. I was also thinking of doing a system using those pools that are plastic and are 3-4 feet deep
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVfav6LNEWQ that is the aquaponics system I'm planning on doing with a few mods.

It's not the size of your fish tank which tells you how many fish you can stock. It is the volume of filtration you have.

What size are your growbeds?

For a first season system I would recommend only about 1 fish per cubic foot of gravel. That would be about one fish per 7.5 gallons of gravel bed.

Once you are more experienced you may get away with more fish but it really doesn't take a huge amount of fish to grow lots of plants.

I will warn that a system with only 100 gallons of fish tank will need some heating over winter to keep tilapia alive in much of Florida. If the water is below 70 F the fish won't be eating or growing much at all. If the water temperature is getting below 55 F you are getting into a danger zone for Blue Tilapia. Water Below about 53 F their immune systems are compromised and Water Below 50 F you are likely to be removing dead fish.

It will be in a greenhouse so I don't really think I will need a heater, how many grow beds so I have if I wanted to have 25 fish in the 100g tank

You'd need at least 140 gall of grow bed..... but I think with such a small tank.... and the tank draw down to service that volume of grow bed....

That you'd be better off 100 gall of grow bed ... and half the number of fish... 15 max...

What if I use the 3-4 foot pools that are 1400g, then do 60+ g growbed? And I can make the growbed of the 100g to be at least 60 gallons.
