Hi All

I started with a small R&D system just over a year ago. Only 100L FT with a 50L GB and a 1.2*2.4 raft.

It was stable for a small system that was until the new pup, (well by October last year she was six months old) decide to rip out all the plumbing.

So I decided to start the full sized system to save the 64 fish that the R&D system contained there and then.

What we now have is a 5000L FT, 1000L GB and a 2000L sump supporting those same 64 gold fish and 35 SP ranging from about 4 - 11 cm currently.

Yes it is way under filtered for the size of the tank (Potential stocking that is) but as it is just only 3 months old it is coping with the bio load very well.

I do filter solids out between the FT and GB but that is only to prevent problems with the plumbing. I currently drain the solids out a few times a week and then pour them into the GB. It has plenty of worms to help clean it all up.

Thoughts of a Radial Flow Filter (RFF) crossed your mind? May assist with the bigger bits ;)

Hi J5!

I saw your name and read that you are a fitter and turner/software guy and therefore thought that you would like this clip:

Intro to Short Circuit

Yes Erich I did look at radial flow filters but just used a 250l pickle drum as a swirl filter. It works quite well as I get a no deposits in the line at the moment. That might change once I add the more beds and hence longer a piping run but we will see.

I will go and take some photos shortly but be warned it is not pretty as it all a work in progress.

MacGyver it was Short Circuit that inspired the name (Johny5). When I went to register the business the names I put forward where rejected so sitting there Johny5 popped up. It help that I had only just seen the movie. Memories from that clip and music.

Fingerling tank within the sump. Will not be doing that with the new sump as the tank can float in the fish tank. The chicken coop is in the background. ( in case anyone is asking)

Welcome Johny5, i see Modbury North and reminds me of the block i sold on the corner of Rawlings Rd and Kankanya St in the early 70's, come to think of it i never did get that bottle of wine from the developer. That area was all under vinyards before it was developed.

Hi chainsaw.

That area is the other side of McIntyre road from here about 2.5K.

I can see a nice black layer of soil before I hit the clay.
