I checked it out. It reminded me of an eight grade research report. Pretty lame. Though I had never thought of using the interlocking foam pads as a raft material. Not sure I want to try it though.

I don't think we need the problems that could arise from promoting their material here - there is far more detailed and complete info freely available and the IBC of Aquaponics makes their offering look like, as Ron says, an eighth grade kid's report.

Hi all. New member here. I'm new to this Aquaponic idea as well. Actually I just heard it for the first time from the Alec Deacon advertisement and decided to research it a bit since he made it sound too good to be true. That Aquatponic4 You is probably a scam but it did introduce curious readers like me to a very exciting idea. I'm really glad I found this forum cause there seems to be a lot of info here. Aquaponic seems to have great potential and I'm definitely going to incorporate it into my preparedness planning. Hoping to learn a lot from folks here.

I have read the thread and now have to ask docscience; did you get the kit in the mail from "Backyard Liberty" as it was described? Also, was it as useful as the menacing video I just finished watching claims? If so it might even be worth the 37 or 17 or so bucks to have an automatic blueprint for this system.

Another thing, is 10 or 15 minutes per day accurate for taking care of a fish/veggie system like this? I live on a farm and have access to boards, tools, dirt, hoses, tanks, etc. I really just want to know if this instruction package is actually good/valid.

Thanks,
D

The quick answer that the scamming website would give is that it takes a long time to find info on the Internet, but it doesn't. The bulk of what you need to know is in a link on the top of the page called IBCofAquaponics. The rest of the time spent is doing the planing and due diligence everyone should do. The closest thing to a one size fits all system would be the single IBC system in the beginning of the manual, there is even a video on how to build it.

In the rapidly evolving world of AP I would not buy a book on the subject anyway unless I needed a book on the bare basic concepts (which I don't), by time something makes it into print there is usually a better way of doing things already devised. Just think how much the dynamics of AP have changed just in the past 5 years especially on the commercial end. I have the feeling that the evolution of AP will continue at a rapid pace for 10-20 years to come. New poly cultures, new system designs, more efficient natural feed sources, the boundaries of AP seem nearly endless.

The problem is every tom, dick and harry are trying to cash in on it... with little or no experience what so ever. Im happy for someone to try make a buck but its the scum that drag the name of aquaponics through the proverbial fish poo. Like AP4U.

Please excuse my scent of "New". :)

I really asked the evidently post-provoking question in order to find out if this package of books was genuinely useful / complete information. Like one of the commenters said it can seem a bit spread out and confusing if you wade into the AP information pond completely new to the topic. I just thought a set of thorough starter literature would be a good thing to have. I'm not really interested in classifying anything as scam or not, just looking for good complete information and just about any book these days will cost you 20 bucks or more which is why I wasn't terribly alarmed at Backyard Liberty's sales pitch... go to Barnes and Noble & see....

Thank you, however, for the opportunity to learn some techniques here on the forum and main site. I look forward to drafting a plan for my garden in good company.

D

What they were suggesting was that any information supplied in that book for $20 will be more than covered in the IBCofAquaponics link up top.

Even better still, it was written by someone with real experience in AP and all pictures and information were willingly contributed by members off this forum.

I doubt there is a better aquaponic resource ANYWHERE... and it is 100% free.

BackyardLiberty.COM is a unique product and it’s NOT a scam.
We are selling a preparedness product made by Alec Deacon survival specialist and Nate Storey Ph. D. in agronomy and crop science.
He is also a researcher at the University of Wyoming. They are real people and our product is trustworthy.

Our product has a high rate of success and lots of happy buyers. However, there are SCAMS like BackyardLiberty dot NET and many others that have copied our site.
They take your money via PayPal and you will never be able to get it back! We tried reasoning with PayPal but they make a habit of protecting scammers apparently.

Just try the product from BACKYARDLIBERTY.COM and you’ll see what it is all about. We have a 100% secure checkout page and process through Avangate.com that uses Visa, Master Card, PayPal, Wire transfer, etc, while the people that cloned us are processing only through PayPal (because it’s easier and they don’t give a damn about their clients).

For good measure we also included a money back guarantee – if you’re not thrilled with the product we’re refunding you no questions asked!

On a positive note here I WAS introduced to AP thru AP4U when they got down to 9.99 after numerous attempts to close the page and as pathetic as that ebook was it did open my eyes to AP and 2 years later we have a 5 IBC FT 2000 gal AP system under glass, about to harvest our first trout and I have no regrets. 10.00 well spent. But yes, a pretty pathetic intro for the average newbie unless they are savy enough to Google AP after they catch the bug and then the real world of AP opens up in front of you including this forum and others. Now we are helping dozens of others build their "real systems" and have sold nearly 100 siphons now to people without the tools to make their own and in doing so have made so many new friends who share the obsession.

The "off grid" scams are even worse in my opinion as a master electrician and they show up all the time as Aquapons try to go off grid with their systems. The internet is cursed by these scams these days and "buyer beware" takes on a whole new slant. The blogs and websites that push this crap don't seem to give a damn as I have written many of them to warn them what crap and lies they are peddling with no success whatsoever. They don't seem to understand that the ads they peddle reflect on their own site's credibility.

BTW this forum has the best smilies around in case no one noticed :headbang:
Unfortunately it took me 2 weeks to get approved on here back nearly 2 yrs ago so I have all my postings and pics and vids at Sylvia's forum where I was approved immediately and I really don't have the time to follow more than one forum. Check out our new FB page under "Smoky Mountain Aquaponics" Just getting started there but trying to share the obsession. The controversy over AP4U led me back here and to this thread.

As to "backyard Liberty.com": if you are legit how come you never show even one pic of what you are peddling on your "landing page" All the hype there sounds mighty suspect to anyone already up to speed with AP and the quagmire called the internet. You might want to re-examine your landing page. It reeks of "scam"

Well I'm buggered if I know what exactly it is you're selling... when I go to your site it immediately directs me to... http://www.backyardliberty.com/vsl/

Which opens with an anti-Obama rant.... then seems to piggyback on aquaponics... in the same way that the aquaponics4u scumbags do...

Care to explain what this "preparedness product" is.. and exactly what involvement Nate Storey has....

P.S... be warned.... I communicate with Nate regularly... and I will be doing so with regards to this... and any further claims you might make that link his name to anything you promote...

So... ante up friend..... coz I reckon you've probably just used Nate's video/work... to paddle your own canoe... probably without his knowledge... or endorsement....
