True enough, doing some tests and the siphons aren't cooperating yet. Experimentation and adjustments forthcoming.

In northern California Tilapia are considered an invasive species and are not allowed, also it's probably too cold anyway. But we do have native trout and catfish, so I was thinking trout, I'm currently trying to source some fingerlings as local as possible. I also want to do crawfish in the sump tank.

The fish tank is just over 1000 gallons, the sump is about 600. The growbeds are about 180 gallons each, absent of gravel.

Thanks for the responses, I'm looking forward to finishing this project for certain. Now I'm off to figure out these siphons.

I would love to build a fish tank like that.. do you mix up your own ferrocement mix, or buy it from somewhere? or is plain cement ok

Just wrapping up this project's construction, washing and loading gravel and making my nice clean water all filthy. Next I'm going to clear out all the chloramine from my city water and start adding ammonia.

I decided to abandon the loop/u siphon's in favor of bells that work hugely better. I tried a half dozen designs for the U's and they were just okay. These bell's work pretty darn good I have to say.
