I've planted some horseradish and it seems to be taking ok. My Wasabi arrives on Saturday from Singapore hopefully.
If you've had any experience with these two veg, drop me a line

I have experience with wasabi and I can tell you its a difficult crop. What is the temperature of the air and water you want to plant them in?

JHb is relatively warm in summer but very cool winter- Summer averages 25c during daylight, winter around 15c

I think you will have a hard time growing wasabi. Its optimum airtemperature is around 15 degrees celcius and for the water 12 degrees. At 25 degrees they will probably start to wilt and for a prolongued period they will probably not survive. I have been growing my wasabi inside a fridge for the past 2 years, almost time to harvest and have a sushi fest!

Hi king air, you can grow Wasabi in sub-tropic conditions, so long as your not after a perfect rhizome/stem. The rhizome is the part that keeps the plant going through 6 months of unfavourable conditions (at the cost of the rhizome's quality) and instead of a prize rhizome, you may get a good supply of leaves (and maybe flowers) for the other cooler 6 months (+/-)

In an AP, you may be at the mercy of the average winter temperature's impact on your AP water temperature (Last winter my water was 2 degrees lower than this year, making all the difference to the plant's happiness).

Growing in pots seems to be more successful in Brisbane/sub-tropics? ... self watering/wicking pots go great in Winter and not so great when things warm up and at a guess, the DO drops.

I can only guess that disease will get the better of these plants in the long run (My first plant from 2014 has now been split into 5 plants, their progress after division is quite slow, even in Brisbane winter conditions).
