How long do you smoke your trout at 150 ?

I used this recipe as a base for tomorrows first smoke.

I do not like celery, instead of brown sugar I used Maple syrup, the salt, sea salt.
As herbs Cilantro and Parsley.
Chopped the onions and garlic to a pulp, with a very small medium hot pepper/red.
Added the Salmon, fresh, my frozen Tilapia, 2, they had to get out of the freezer.
Since its fall temps at night in the lower 40s, I just put a lid on the pan and set it on the porch.
50s tomorrow no sun but clouds. When I get back from the company I will crank up the stove and well we will see.

This last batch we did was very fatty maybe due to the cheap food we've been feeding them for the last few months. I had them at 150F for three hours and they still needed more heat.

Specs: 2600 gallon (347.56cf) Masonry fish pond. 44cf GBs. 200 gal (26.7cf) ST. 15 gal (2cf) RFF. 50 gal (6.7cf) biofilter. Brook trout and Comets.

How do you keep the trout lit when you smoke them? I thought maybe the fat would help keep them lit.

Plumber's torch, includes a hot shave, for free.

She was a smoking moma, yesterday afternoon. It was rather cool, rainy, so I got only 160F, with the help of the torch.
I have to look into that. We had 48F outside 100% air. To run the torch for 2.5 hours is no solution, good for start up, but than it becomes expensive, a cartridge costs 15$.

Never the less, the result is outstanding, scrub oak with cherry pellets. 3.5 hours.
The Tilapia turned out ok, they could have had more fat, taste is very good, the Salmon is mouth watering, just falls apart, just enough juice and the taste perfect.
Tilapia tasteful, but a bit dry. Warm water fish, not enough fat/oil.

Salmon, cold water fish, fat/oil, more juicy.

The batch I did last time wasn't as fatty for some reason. Yummy nonetheless. Made cleanup easier, lol. I haven't tried salmon, I bet that was good.

Winter is giving it a serious going. We over the last 2 weeks some really good snow.
30 inches in total.
First a real warm snow storm, which brought 13 inches of extremely wet snow, a very welcome mess.
Than it got cold and we got some Colorado powder.
Today a brilliant but very cold day.
Last night the temps dropped till -1F, -18C.
Tonight will be rather to fresh -10F, around -25C and some.
Than the next storm comes in and probably drop the temps even more.
By next weekend we will be in the 40F around 8 C, taht will feel like a heat wave.

Good Health and a ton of drought breaking snow to bitch about

We have now serious Winter.
Bu now I have over 4 feet of snow on the ground, very heavy and wet snow.
When I plow it, it is blue inside, full of precious water.
My weather station recorded 50 mm of water, but it is not made for snow. The nearest Snowtel Station in Mancos recorded nearly 9 inches, over 20 cm of water.
The first month of Winter kept its El Nino promise.
2 more to go. It looks promising water wise.
The younger I get the more I dislike snow, if it were not for the water and the slow soak, I could do with out it.
It looks as if we get a week break and I can finally dig out the rest of the Ranch.
Huge piles of snow from the roofs.
I will be married to my tracktor.

yee gawds and little fishes...while you are lamenting your winters and snow, have a drink for us poor yobs in Australia, most of the country in heat wave and hovering around the 35 - 45 Celcius I think thats around 100 - 110 in your funny terms

It is a good lookin tractor to be married to gnoib. I sure wish I had that front end loader... but I'm managing to get the job done with the ole girl in my barn... just think that loader would come in handy when spring comes around again... thinking I will end up buying a 3 point scoop to be able to move some dirt since I don't have a loader.

Tonzz, our summers are as warm as your heat wave, 30-40 C, July and August.

Rininger, without that tractor I would have a problem up here.
Very handy machine.

I thought winter had come to an end.
