yea I might do that. The 7mm pellets are rather large, I'll be breaking them up for the mo till they get used to them

Hi Everyone

Just to let you know I managed to get 95 fingerlings and about 30 800g Trout through this years summer. The trick I used was to use fine water sprays over the grow area. It was timed duration and controlled by the daily temp at the time.

Just food for thought for those that would like to try.

Tempting, I've tried many things previously but never managed to keep my water below 23c, how big is your system? I'd love some pics to compare against my setup

Hiya all

I'm up in Hills, (Littlehampton) and I have a 10KL system currently with about 120 rainbow trout and 30 mature silvery perch. I use a large gravel growbed with maybe 1-2 tons in it. Its been running for around 6 years or so now and performs great. Now however I'm preparing to sell my home. When we find a buyer its very unlikely they will have interest in the system so I'll need to move it. We're looking at a new property around 15kms away. I'd love to keep at least my silver perch alive but how can I do this without setting up a new system, is there a way or should I just stick everything in the freezer and decommission the whole thing. That would probably be easiest and perhaps best in the long run.
Or I could sell the system at a good price and have the buyer remove it saving me the labour?

Anyone have any advice or words or wisdom to share with me?

Hi Bedlore

From experience if you decommission and then rebuild it will take some time. Were as if you setup another fish tank to start then move your fish. You will do the job a lot quicker and with more urgency.

You could use some of the water you currently have to start the new system. You can then empty and relocate your grow bed. This will help your new system get going quicker.

It is a lot of work but it will be done before you know it.

I don't feel that is possible because I would need an effective solids filter and more importantly an active and large enough bacteria system to keep up with 150 large fish. I suspect they would be dead within 4 or 5 hours.

That is a lot of fish.

You could cull 50% and go with the rest.
