Should give you a pretty good idea to start (5 parts to it).

I am only doing a 4x8, but ill easily be able to expand when the time comes.

Space prohibits larger until i get the dirt grow beds out of the way later this year.

Is there a study for air gap? You mentioned eb. Link? Thanks

the air gap option is mentioned for example in the FAO Aquaponic handbook - Kratky method
(Google 'FAO Aquaponic' - tech paper 589 Small-scale aquaponic food production Integrated fish and plant farming)

look on pages >> bottom paragraph 69 and pic at top 70.

I cannot find the EB link - maybe they did not have a dedicated one for the DWC trial and it is various posts over forum that mention it (the picture comes from one of those).

Earthbound = "We were about to do away with the polystyrene in our system and make rafts out of pvc pipe with corrugated plastic top like they use for signs....t?"
this comes from viewtopic.php?f=14&t=12122&p=322532&hilit=DWC#p322532

** as noted elsewhere I had access to the heavier duty corflute (SES storm repair offcuts) but have since found that the acrylic/polycarbonate dual wall cell roofing is much better (I got a couple of offcut sheets to try from a salvage place).

also the non-polystyrene options are mentioned in a couple of other places:

Charlie is another who has used it.

It was getting discussed here (Charlie and DasBoot on page 1) until the thread went 90 degrees left to new zealand...
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21689

just go with the gap and constant water levels like FAO describe.

Very safe.

The dealer in Tampa hasn't replied to an email from two days ago or answer my phone call today. So that wipes out pickup. Next dealer is out of state.

Is hydroshale durable?

They will ship but is does add cost.

The holes are done when they are made so it is sealed off inside the hole.

Who will ship. Dealer or manufacturer? How long have you had them? Falling apart?

No return email from the local dealer in Tampa, FL
No answer on phone from the local dealer in Tampa, FL
Hydroshale FaceBook page hasn't had anything posted on it since October 2015. More than 8 months ago.

Are there any other FOOD grade alternatives to make rafts?

Beaver Plastic Lettuce Rafts
http://www.globalplasticsheeting.com/le ... hydroponic

I PM you HydroShale owner’s email address.

https://www.amazon.com/Beaver-Plastics- ... B01GG934IS

I have not been using them that long I just put mine in 3/19/2016 they are holding up well so far.
But they have a long way to get before I can give a long term use review. I really wanted something that was certified organic and safe these meet that bill as do the Beaver Plastics.

I don’t have the beaver plastics version but the pricing on Amazon is attractive.
I only have the hydroshale version.

i ordered the beaver plastics. The owner of hydroshale gave me a quick reply saying he will get right back to me with pricing after looking it up on his phone. Never got a a response.

Beaver plastics seem to be the same. Is available on amazon with like you said, good price shipped. Also, I asked a quick dumb question and got a response within an hour. Ordered a 12 pack. of 18 holes. I don't see the need to get more holes for a back yard setup. Still need 6 more. Beaver plastics there are restocking 3 packs on amazon this week.

You will have to give a review when you get them.
I think they look like a very good product.

Yup, will do. Just need some time off work to finish the DWC build.
