Well I am headed for California for a Job interview on Sunday. If there are any Aquaponics operations running in the Palmdale or Victorville areas let me know I would love to visit if time allows.

This is an email from Symon Hajjar about me and the going away party we had at the Gardens.

It was four years ago on a fall afternoon that I first met Prentice Shew. I had just said goodbye to my after school students and went outside to water the gardens. I remember that day because it was a hard one; I was tired from teaching, my voice was just about used up, and I was ready to zone out on some garden work. As I entered the gardens I saw Prentice standing in the distance with a notepad. My exhaustion quickly turned into intrigue as he shared with me the spectacular stories of his many adventures, including living off the grid in Alaska and getting the better of a grizzly bear in a fight.

In the weeks and months to follow Prentice's notebook would slowly fill with his many ideas for the gardens and for our garden community. The investment that Prentice and his family made into our community has left a lasting impact. Their bottomless inspiration, willingness, reliability, and resolve to see a plan through to the end can be seen everywhere you look in our gardens. From our chicken coop with its observation deck and chicken tunnel, to our insect hotel, rocket ovens, aquaponics system and indoor grow room; from our beekeeper partnership to our ADA accessible gardens, cedar benches and community garden announcement board; from late night dish duty and clean up to inspiring poetry and artistic expressions; not to mention the countless meals, bonfires, cookout events, markets and so much more! Indeed, the Shew family has truly left their mark on the Gardens. In the upcoming weeks Prentice, Karen, Bekah and Kat will be moving. One thing is for certain, they leave us better than they found us.

Sincerely,

Symon Hajjar

Congratulations! I hope everything there exceeds your expectations!

I'd expect that within a pretty day-trip, you've several on this forum in Colorado as well as those crazies in the top of New Mexico... :D

If Colorado Springs doesn't already have a community (or school?) greenhouse, I think it's about time someone puts forth the proposal to built such a fantastic asset for the community. Don't you? But, who best to lead such a charge? :dontknow:

Seriously... you did such a great job where you are moving from, I cannot see you going forth NOT as an ambassador for the bringing together that a community project provides. :thumbright:

sorry for no updates in a while. I have been busy working on my life and Job and things and I have had no time to think about Gardening. Truly a Sad time in my life.
Well back to Gardening. I will be working on adding a swirl filter to our AP system, as it is now the Grow medium is small enough to get into the pump. this must change. After I get this done I will look into more fish and plants. Until that time I plan to work on proving I can grow tomatoes on a small Apartment porch.
