Nova, the inflow from the fishtanks to the grow bed could be controled to some degree by a ball/gate valve.

The timer does that. Besides, you don't want to restrict flow from the tank in this system, defeats the purpose of gravity and venturi action which is the mechanism for removing solids from the fish tank.

MF - good update. A number of us will be using Venturi drains in our systems under design. I would have had mine on line by now but for an inability to source a suitable sized sump. Have now found this and will pick up next weekend along with a 2500 litre ex aquaculture tank that has a centre drain and sloping bottom - ideal for this type of setup.

Although, as you say, venturi drains are the preferred system in aquaculture, you ar creditted with introducing the concept here and adapting it to our needs (so obvious - but not until you pointed it out).

Good one MF.

The system is fine...static really. I have lots of fish, lots of basil and cilantro. Wife and I are still trying to decide on land or stay here. In four weeks I am statutorliy clear of any liable exposure from my employee who was nearly killed on the job two years ago, so that is keeping us at bay for the moment. I'd love to add a tank, build a greenhouse, etc. Need more space!!!

Thanks...I did get the go ahead to take the garden over, but we keep talking land and since we can't make up our minds, there's no point in getting carried away like Aussieponic over there!

I think Aussieponic is a graduate of the Jaymie and Axl school of AP. ie GO LARGE. Nice to have that space.

Its here on "Mikes System", down the bottom of the page - it is different to the auto siphon set up only by not having an end cap

DT..if you need any clarification just ask. Are you going to a venturi drain in your fish tank?

Nah don't think so. at least not now. I am not going to mess with my current successes. I might in a future system.
