Post subject:  From Tulsa to Mannford

Hello everyone,

I have been studying aquaponics for a few years now and knew I would be moving so I have yet to build my system.
I will be moving to the Mannford area after the first of the year and will start later in the year on getting it together.
I have met a couple of people in the Tulsa area that have aquaponics systems up and running and was able to help them work through some problems they were having and very excited about getting my own started.
I have raised fish most of my life and that experience has been helping me to help others even though I don't have my system put together yet.
So far I have gathered a few things getting ready for it: several 40 gallon aquariums for starting the fry out and a 210 gallon aquarium for a breeding tank as well as a 1,000 gallon stock tank to use for grow out.
I am wanting to find a cheap source for the hydroton beads so if anyone knows of any I would appreciate the info.
When I start building I will post photos of the build and progress of the system afterwards.
Great to be here and I look forward to see other's systems as well.
Cheers to you all!

Welcome Kheroot! Hydroton is one of those things that is best to buy locally. I found a shop in San Diego that sells it for less than I could find it online BEFORE shipping. Definitely keep an eye out. What kind of fish did you raise?

Hello Ron, thanks for the reply, I will be raising tilapia. I think I want to go with the White Nile variety.

Hi Kheroot, congrats on starting to build!
I just recently became interested in aquaponics and would like to start something small in Tulsa. I'm looking for some local advice, if you know of anyone who might be interested in meeting up or showing off their system and giving pointers would you help me connect?

Thanks!
